FAST SWIMMMING
by Coach Laura Smith
More successful swims were posted at Old Dominion University as the Outer Banks Swim Club competed in the ODAC BB/B/C meet on February 7-8. Those swimmers who competed are learning that discipline, experience, and hard work are key ingredients for fast swimming and stroke improvement.
In the 10 and under boys division Henry Roach led the way with two new BB time standards posted in 100 y IM and 100 y freestyle. These times qualify him for events in the A/BB Championship meet held later this month in Newport News, Virginia. In addition, Henderson Beasley posted a personal best time in 100 y breaststroke as well as competing in two new 10 and under events. Brianna Susco, in the 10 and under girls division, posted three new personal best records in 100 y breaststroke, 50 backstroke, and 100 IM. In the 8 and under group, Elise Gibbs and Jon Roach turned in quality swims in 25 y backstroke, 25 y breaststroke, and 25 y freestyle.
In the 11 and older age groups girls Tyler Daughtry and Brittney Gibbs posted personal bests in 50 y back, 50 y freestyle, 100 y freestyle, and 200 IM, respectively. The senior swimmers, many who were returning from the North Carolina High School Regional meet Friday, posted personal best times as well. Andrew Diaz led the way with time improvements in the 200 IM and 100 Breaststroke. Brittany Brown competed successfully in the grueling 500 yd freestyle.
