OBX Shark Power
Compared to most USA swimming programs the Outer Banks Sharks are a relatively new group. Their lack of experience was not apparent as they competed last weekend in Newport News at the Typhoon BB/B/C/ swim meet. Sixteen swimmers from our area competed resulting in many personal best times, improvements in time standards, and quality swims. For many this was their first experience competing with others from Virginia and other areas.
In the 10 and under division, Henry Roach excelled in all three events entered posting new BB time standards in 200 yd. IM and 50 yd. backstroke while swimming a personal best time in 100 breaststroke. These new time standards qualify him for the A/BB Championship meet held later in February with swimmers from many parts of Virginia.
Others in the 10 and under division who posted personal best times and other quality swims were: Alyssa Crotser, Elise Gibbs, Brianna Susco, Henderson Beasley, Jon Roach, Mary Catherine Staten, and Joey Staten.
In the senior division many swimmers achieved personal best times in several events as well. In the 13-14 division Brittney Gibbs and Andrew Beasley posted time improvements in 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke. In the 15 and over Women’s division Brittany Brown and Angela Crotser had personal bests in 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle respectively. In the 15 and over Men’s division Anthony Crotser excelled with a 100 yd freestyle swim of 55. 98. This was substantial time improvement from his last effort. Other men who competed with quality swims were Matt Cahill, Andrew Diaz, and Taylor Wells. Inclement weather limited the senior events and resulted in a premature end of the swim meet. We are happy to report the entire team made a safe, in not somewhat slow, trip back to the Outer Banks on Sunday evening. All felt the trip and competition were well worth it!
